A Christmas Song Revisited

Last night at Christmas Eve service in Santa Barbara, California, on the campus of Westmont College- we sang this song.

It is a song that for so long just made me think of "Home Alone." But this year, for whatever reason, maybe the state of our economy, the state of our world, the state of our corporate sin... I was struck.

Struck with the true awe of what happened on that night 2,000 years ago.  And so today I share with you the lyrics, of a familiar and old song- but I pray you would read them as if for the 1st time, and recognize how meaningful they are today.  Oh the weary world... then- long awaiting a Savior, and today- long awaiting His return...

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth;

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn;

Fall on your knees, Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night divine, O night, O night divine!

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace;

Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother,
And in His name all oppression shall cease.

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name;

Christ is the Lord, Oh, praise His name forever!
His pow'r and glory evermore proclaim!
His pow'r and glory evermore proclaim!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
