Saturday morning we woke up early, drove to Dallas Love Field Airport, flew to Tulsa, rented a car, and drove to Siloam Springs, Arkansas. (The car ride was longer than the flight.) All to celebrate 50 years of John Brown Basketball.
It was a blast! Ty played basketball at JBU in college- and his senior year they won the national championship! This year marked 50 years of JBU basketball and we got to be a part of the celebration.
We arrived in time to see the last 7 minutes of a 3 v 3 tournament and scrimmage. Somehow Ty planned the trip perfectly so that he would not have to participate. Hmm. We went to lunch with Ty's friend Josh- a missionary in the Philippines and father of 3. His wife went out with a girl friend for lunch, but the truck she was riding was not safe for the kiddos. So we were helpers as Josh ventured out for the 1st time with ALL THREE kids. It was super fun. (and also a bit fun-ny).
Next we went back to the gym... where years before I drove from Branson to Siloam to watch Ty play his season opener at the famous "Toliet Paper Game." You see, JBU has a tradition, at the first home game every year, after JBU scores their first point, every person in the stands throws rolls of toliet paper on the court. It is so cool. Yes they get a technical, but it's worth it. So, I watched Ty's senior Toliet Paper Game. The only thing is, we weren't dating then, and we didn't even like each other, I was just going with a friend who wanted to watch Ty play. Who knew that 5 years later, we'd be married.
Anyways- we were back at the gym for the women's and men's games- and lots of visiting with old basketball friends for Ty. Fortunately, his friends have wonderful wives- who I got to visit with- and precious babies- who I got to hold.
After the games, there was a banquet for all the alumni and current players. They opened the mic and the men got up and told hilarious stories about their basketball days. It was quite the night!
We continued visiting at the adorable home of one of Ty's dearest friends. And hours later, we rolled ourselves into bed.... only to wake up the next morning for the drive to Tulsa, flight to Dallas, and drive home.
It was exhausting, but worth every minute...I only wish our time there could have been longer... oh and I wish I wouldn't have left my camera in the hotel room the whole time.

Sweeter than Cookies
Yesterday I baked cookies as a good behavior reward for my 4th grade class. A few minutes later, this folded up note landed on my desk (with the deliverer walking quickly away).

Getting Scrappy
Presenting all of my productions from scrapbook weekend!! This first page is the "cover page," I actually made it last year- and I had a few other pages done, but I did not include them in this LONG post. This scrapbook begins with Ty proposing and moves right through the wedding preparations and into married life.
Okay- so this page on the left was a new one- getting my wedding dress!!
Close up of the page. Love the "chip clips" holding the size 14 dress on.
This is a shower page. Ty and his best friend, Ben, showed up and opened one last gift- acting like they think we girls act when we open presents. Hmm..
A new technique I learned was to put each letter on individual pieces of paper. see how cute it looks. Also using some capitals and some lower case randomly makes a cute look.
Next page- our wedding day - or at least the day we signed the papers in Dallas :)
I tried to be cute and write in black, then add some dots and lines in white to spice up the letters. I need some practice.

Getting my hair done with Craig. The journaling explains how Craig has done my hair for 11 years and how special it was for him to do my wedding hair.

The actual wedding day!!
The letters June 30, 2007 were cut on a woman's cricut machine (pronounced cricket apparently). what a cool $400 machine! I think I'll just use random strangers or encourage Julia to buy one :) Loved my flowers! That's a close up of a bridesmaid's bouquet.
You can't see it well- but I used lots of different photo borders on this page- flower ribbon, vellum paper, and around the cake is actually some journaling talking about the groom's cake.
HONEYMOON PAGES! Okay- making these made me want to go on a trip!! The color scheme changes to orange and blue here. And I started to include some things from the trip: brochures, plane stubs, wrist bands, etc.

The food! I love taking pictures of interesting looking food- Ty makes fun of me- but what a cool page. I read a blog where this lady always uses a white gel pen for all journaling and it's super cute- so I've been searching for one, but have not been successful. I borrowed this one from a lady at the retreat- it does look cute doesn't it?? If you find a good white gel pen, please let me know where to purchase it!!

We went to Colorado a month after our wedding with Ty's family. These pages I made super late at night and they are not too good- so I'm not even showing them. But I do think this picture of some friends' kids is super cute- the kids are cousins- so I added the little tag that says "sweet cousins" and put a ribbon on it . I used a lot of tags for journaling and really liked them.
"Thanks-Christmas" We spent our first Thanksgiving with my mom- but did Christmas with her that weekend too.
I love all the different letters in this word- also I put some leaves by Thanksgiving and a Christmas sticker by Christmas. How cute is my brother in this photo?
Okay- I just had to include this picture- is my grandma not so adorable here? I just love her to death!! Also- I made the frame by using some curvy scissors.
Our 1st Christmas (just Ty and I). I tore a red page in half and glued it down on both ends. I think that looks cute as a big spread.

I loved how "Our 1st Christmas" turned out- had to use random caps and lower case due to what was available- but it looks cute. Also, the "O Holy Night" was a rub on, I put it on some Christmas paper, then inked the edges in red. How crafty I'm getting :)
Julia's Disco Party! How fun is this page?? See the cute tag in the middle? It is the title- plus has a couple of ribbons on it. I glued the ends of the ribbon down so that it didn't cover any pictures too much.

And that's my creation, more or less. I'm not great or super creative, but it's fun and now the memories are preserved in a cute way with lots of descriptions. I have a ways to go to get caught up, but that's okay- I'm planning another scrapbook weekend real soon :)

Canton Finds
Okay - well we did go to Canton, TX a few weeks ago. Canton is a huge flea market the weekend of the 1st Monday of every month- in fact it's called "First Mondays." So, the Sawyer family loaded up in the Explorer and pick -up truck to go find us some goods! We had a few furniture pieces to look for... and our #1 priority was successful!!
To begin with... we have a 1939 home, with basically original everything, except for the kitchen. It's very cottage-y, which I love! And most of the doors have very cute old fashioned door knobs- but they are full of paint and bent up. Not the cute old crystal ones. Here's a replacement gold doorknob to our bedroom- oh the horror!
The week before Christmas I used some gift cards from students to purchase this adorable crystal one from Anthropologie. Unfortunately I had to take off the cute key hole plate- and now I'll have to patch up the door and repaint- but can't you see how cute it's going to be!!
Okay- so then we went to Canton, and what do I find? More crystal door knobs- 3 all the same and waaaaay cheaper than my 1 from Anthropologie. So I bought them... and we only have 3 more doors on that hallway- so perfect! Still need to put them on though.
What else did we get in Canton?? Well, let me show you. Ty has long been wanting a cow print something in our home. And here's what we found...
Isn't the footstool adorable?? It's handmade and was such a great deal- only $50~ so we also purchased the matching throw pillow with cow hide on both sides. (I like to say "fur" but Ty insists that it is "hide" - either way- you get the point.)
Oh and we had one more purchase, but apparently I haven't taken a picture yet... so... to be continued

Exhaustion
Scrapbook Weekend was SO fun! Come with me next year- it will be worth it! even if you're going to be a newbie to scrapbooking!
We laughed so much, scrapbooked so much, and slept very little. I even got a massage on Saturday- man does my back feel good now! Julia had facebook withdraws- so we started writing status updates on paper and "posting it to the wall"- literally. It was hilarious. But at least our status was up to date!
We laughed at the many ladies who loaded up 10-20 bags or boxes of scrapbook materials, spread out, set up, and then only did about 5 pages all weekend long. Why bring all your things if you don't plan on actually using them? Also, why take up all the space and the best seats if you're not going to sit there? Oh well, we got a lot done without thousands of boxes of "stuff."
I completed 37 pages- i thought that was pretty good. i'm proud of most of the pages (some just got slapped down and finished). I'll post some photos of my favorite pages, hopefully tomorrow. Julia won "Queen of the Crop" she finsihed 90 pages! She was on a roll!
Okay- I'm off to find some energy and get myself geared up for school. Stay tuned for scrapbook pages

Big Plans
Well... I know I've been bad about blogging- for 2 main reasons.
#1. I usually blog during the school day when I have time on the computer and my school computer has been broken since early December.
#2. I can't always think of cool things to blog about. working on creativity this year.
So... maybe I'll get more consistent soon.
But, for now- just wanted to say- that this weekend I have packed up my scrapbook things and am going for a weekend scrapbook retreat to Pine Cove Camps. A school friend is going with me and we are going to scrap away all weekend! I went to Sam's last week to print my photos to take with me. When I went back to pick them up, the man could not find them anywhere. He searched every drawer and could not find them. But I knew they were there because the store had called me the day before to say they were in. So he was at a loss. Finally he said, "was it a big order?" "Well, 300 photos," I replied. "Oh- that explains it," as he pulled out a BOX of photos. Yes, a box. Not a packet like normal, but a box.
I have a lot to do this weekend.
Next week, maybe I'll post some of my favorite scrapbook pages. That would be a good and creative idea.
